Jasmine Hextall
As a Manx student who has been studying in London Jasmine's practice stems from exploring a sense of home and nostalgia. Most recently this has been in the form of underwater, ecological investigations as she identifies these themes as being part of her Manx identity. Being a fully qualified BSAC scuba diver and with three marine biologists in her family, Jasmine has had the information provided to create artwork using a wide variety of materials to explore humans interference with nature and how they interact with each other. Inspired by the likes of Cousteau and marine conservationists such as Sylvia Path, Jasmine has been exploring Manx waters and translating her findings into her artistic practice. Through painting, photography, ceramics and print, Jasmine's practice raises questions on what more needs to be done to combat human impact on nature and how we can build a better relationship with the natural world. Her work encourages people to stop and think about the balance of ecosystems and the need for conservation. Inspired by her connection to the sea and the ecological heritage of the Isle of Man, through her practice, Jasmine wants to spark curiosity and encourage others to connect with nature. www.fineartbyjasmine.my.canva.site |
