Paulina Kurzydlowska
The boundaries between the digital and physical state of the art object are a key factor in how we connect with art today. Paulina's practice explores the materiality of the physical and digital artwork, questioning our own perception of these disparate forms across many types of media. By crossing over these boundaries, Paulina attempts to bestow a lived reality over the art object, which has historically been manifested through depictions of the landscape. She aims to deepen our connection through visual cues, thus, creating colourful happenings overlaying her coded imagery. Paulina often work between multiple disciplines simultaneously, using each tool’s strength to her advantage and adapting her style to any physical or digital medium she feels is most relevant at the time of creating. By engaging in a variety of objects, her work encourages viewers to consider their own interaction with digital spaces in real-time. Coding software has taken a pivotal role in the composition of Paulina's randomly generated geometric imagery which aims to engage with the senses, conveying a narrative of her developing interest in fractal geometry, coding and algorithmic rules. From these purely digital pieces, her work has evolved to acrylic paintings and embroidery designs inspired by the visual quality of pixelated display screens and repetitive processes of making, drawing connections to ritual, memory and nature. www.paulinakurzydlowska.com |
