Samantha Carroll
After completing her studies as a mature student on the UAL Diploma in Art and Design Foundation Studies in the Isle of Man, Sam has immersed herself into painting large, abstract mixed media and sculptural pieces exploring material, texture and expressive form. Sam explores her home area on the Island to draw inspiration and when commenting on one painting, From Beinn-y-Phott, she describes her artistic intention: "The act of moving through the landscape, only accessible on foot; climbing, breathing, arriving - fills me with energy and a heightened sense of aliveness, which I intend the painting to reflect. I used vivid, saturated oil paint to mirror that physical and emotional response. The intensified colour palette echoes the rush of air, light and movement experienced on the walk, transforming the spectacular view into something vibrant and charged rather than passive. I wanted the bold contrasts to allow the landscape to pulse with the same vitality I feel when I am there." |
