Gary Bennett - Ancient place
Ballaquaggan is a centuries old farmhouse surrounded by trees, where the sun rises over an ancient neolithic site and shines through the woods. Throughout the day the light changes with an intensity and saturation of colour until the sun sets over South Barrule generating a golden glow and the moon takes over glimmering through the trees.
Since Gary Bennett moved there two years ago, he has spent time restoring the overgrown gardens which has reconnected him with nature’s design and created new synaptic pathways. It has led him on a spiritual journey through the vertical lines of the trees that have elevated him to a place where he has generated a deep bond between himself and his environment.
The sense of peace he has found in this new home has expedited a step change in his work, particularly in the way he lays down colour. His paintings now convey a narrative that help us connect to our own surroundings by posing questions and inviting us to look deeper and then even deeper to a place where tiny gems still await discovery.
