David Cowley
David is a self taught artist who has lived his entire life on the Isle of Man. Drawing and painting have been a passion since he was a schoolboy but like many, David was unable to follow his passion until later in life. David spent his working career as a painter and decorator, where his decorating and sign writing skills have been sought after for the upkeep of historic Manx treasures such as the wonderful Victorian Gaiety Theatre and the iconic Elizabethan clock on Castle Rushen. The skills David honed during his working life as a craftsman, have translated through to his current role as an artist. David employs his gift as a draughtsman to create detailed pencil drawings or watercolour paintings of things that attract him from his Manx homeland. His subject matter is varied and can range from well known landmark buildings or places, through to abandoned cars or local wildlife. His recent publication, Sketch Diary, documents many of the Island's built landmarks as studied by David on his travels around his Island home. www.davidpaulcowley.im |
