Ellie Baker

The landscape around us is forever transforming and Ellie's work offers the viewer the chance to stop and consider. The fragility of the natural environment is explored through texture and fragmentation, using a range of mixed media including acrylic, oil pastel and pencil. Within each work, Ellie uses a process of repeatedly applying paint over gesso and then rubbing or scraping layers back, exposing vulnerabilities and often overlooked intricacies. She subtly guides the viewer to take note of the many types of marks and tones that appear. Also to observe each scene as a whole, to what has faded and how we may allow it to flourish again.
