Frauke Watson
Was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1959 and studied Languages and Culture in the Free University of West Berlin. She has lived in the US and France before coming to the Isle of Man in 2010. Her art has always been a bit of a playful meander between techniques, material and cultural context, but her creative spark invariably starts with one central question: “What ELSE can I do with this?” This has over time resulted in weird and wonderful concoctions made from all the things that we disregard or throw away, because in her opinion, no material has any intrinsic value or virtue other that what our various cultures assign to it - in other words, “One person’s trash is another one’s treasure.” Ultimately, she aims to give a joyful twist to everything she does, trying to point out things that unite us rather than our differences. After all, we are all members of one tribe, the Earth Tribe. |
