Linda Livesey
Linda is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Little London on the Isle of Man. She gained a First Class Honours degree in Creative Practice from Manchester University in 2017, specialising in ceramics. Her final body of work was based on coastal strandlines; natural and man-made shapes, items that are decaying, discarded or overlooked. These become an integral part of the inspiration for Linda's designs and are often included in her pieces. Enjoying textiles in many forms, Linda has been weaving for 47 years and practicing embroidery for more than 35 years, which has enabled her to learn and include in her practice, many techniques and designs. Currently, Linda's stitching is simplified, working on dyed, printed natural fabrics as much as possible, inspiration coming from weathered and worn surfaces; working in 2D and 3D. In her work, Linda tries to capture the unexpected; the quiet beauty of neglected environments or found objects with a sculptural quality which may be overlooked by most people. Design inspiration for Linda's current textile work, starts with collages made with printed/painted papers. Lots of mark making. The human form, Egyptian Mummies have also featured in her work. Linda has drawers full of ideas that have been developed to a stage, waiting for their turn to become part of her practice, which often combines textiles and ceramics. For Linda, satisfaction comes from the creative practice of making, immersing herself totally in exploring shape, texture and surfaces in both ceramics and textiles. |
