"Predominantly in the form of performance, sculpture or printmaking, my practice explores the notion of the inner self. The recognition of “self” may come natural to some but exist as somewhat of an enigma to others. For me, it is an ongoing investigation. I embark on journeys that allow me to spend time with materials, focusing on the involvement and disruption of myself with them. Having experienced anxiety in different forms throughout my life, I have undergone therapies that exposed my emotions and implemented methods that put me in touch with them, in an attempt to come to understand and cope with them. My approach to the idea of self focuses on the element of thinking known as the subconscious. I use therapeutic techniques to tread along this bridge that lies between the conscious and subconscious. By balancing on this tightrope, I bring uncertainty to the certain and celebrate uncomfortability." |
