Kate jerry - sanctuary and Dream home
Sanctuary
Dream Home
Two paintings arising from the same idea: Sanctuary and Dream Home
The theme of home has been depicted by Kate in many different forms and materials since 2015 (and since childhood).
‘Home’, from a design perspective, is a subject that is interesting to illustrate, angular and makes sense of a space in both 2D and 3D, with fascinating view points and the way in which it occupies and changes a space/painting/landscape or more.
Home is not simply a physical space; it is a sacred haven that encapsulates our identity, emotions and hopefully, treasured memories. While some may say that home is where one’s roots lie, others contend that it transcends geographical boundaries. Home can be found in the comfort and a safe place with loved ones or even within oneself. However, ‘home’ can transcend the physical boundaries of four walls and a roof; it is not defined by fixed coordinates or possessions. Rather, it is an ethereal concept steeped in freedom and exploration. For the traveller, home lies within their heart, embedded in the vast landscapes they traverse, the cultures they encounter, and the connections they forge along their journey. It is found amidst starry nights under open skies, high mountain passes and unfamiliar streets. The nomadic soul finds solace in the ever-changing horizons that stretch far beyond any sense of comfort or familiarity. Experiences etched into memory — shaped into nuanced, multifaceted
perspectives of self-discovery.
What remains undeniable, is that humans intrinsically long for a place they can truly call home, a sanctuary where they can find solace and embrace their sense of belonging. Regardless of cultural or geographical differences, this innate desire to connect with a physical space reflects the universal yearning for stability and security. For the artist ‘house’ symbolizes detachment, affiliation, and navigating intense emotions across different regions worldwide, the idea of house continues to fascinate Kate, urging introspection into the true meaning of home.
Medium: mixed media acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 113 x 70 cm
