Valerie Galpin
Val's most recent series of work is of Manx vernacular architecture, where the buildings are extracted from their reality in order to reveal their essence, thus enabling the buildings to speak for themselves. A previous series focused on the body language of people, often from Val's own generation, as they go about their business. Not portraits, but once again extracted from their surroundings to focus on their essence. Yet another was of the seasonal variations of flowerbeds in Val's Peel garden. No matter what the subject, her painting process is slow, meditative and completely absorbing. Today Val operates from her new studio/gallery in Onchan. |
