Yvy Capponi
Yvy’s work is inspired by people, nature, landscapes and the seasons. Most of the time, the illustrations are a thoughtful view of an indistinguishable place, hovering between real and surreal. Quite often, the figures that Yvy illustrates are not real people but created beings. These beings are inspired by the folklore of different cultures around the world. Similarities in folklore often appear between these differing cultures. Familiar or mysterious, these illustrations invite the viewer to project their own interpretations on to the work, raising important questions of identity and representation. Movement, displacement, perception and transformation remain consistent threads in the work, which is characterised by conceptual rigour and the ability to incorporate an infinite number of references. |
