This year's WOSAT happens to coincide with Peel Commemorations marking 100 years since the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. We will be joining in with the commemoration with a Maritime-themed exhibition of Creative Network members work at the Isle Gallery...and more news to be released soon! A little history of the Lusitania...
On May 7, 1915, one of the most brutal attacks on civilians during World War One took place when RMS Lusitania was torpedoed. Despite warnings that the vessel would face danger, more than 2,000 people were travelling from New York to Liverpool when she was attacked. A small fishing boat, The Wanderer, from Peel, Isle of Man, was the first on the scene. The crew of seven rescued more than 150 people from the freezing waters. Letters home reveal the devastation they witnessed. Kelly Foran reports. Video news report by the BBC

Events are beginning to take shape for WOSAT and this includes a concert by 'The Isle of Man Poetry Society' and early music group 'Hartes Ease'!
A similar concert was performed during the inaugural WOSAT in 2012...way back when, so we are so pleased to have them back again this year. They will perform in the Corrin Hall, Sunday 3rd May 2015! |
